Which benefits are provided by workers' compensation?

Understanding the requirements for qualifying for workers' compensation in Iowa can be confusing, but you may be just as concerned about what will be covered if you are approved. If you have been injured at work and are in need of assistance, you are likely curious about the benefits that you would be offered.

According to the Iowa Workplace Development, there are two types of benefits that you may be offered. The first is disability benefits, which can be determined by the severity of the injury you received. If you cannot return to any form of gainful employment, you may be eligible for Permanent Total Disability benefits. If you can return to work, but will need to be trained in the vocational rehabilitation program, you may be given Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits.

If you can return to work, but can only obtain a job that pays less, you may qualify for Temporary Partial Disability. Healing Period benefits can also be given if you simply need coverage to sustain you while you are recovering. Injuries to certain parts of your body may help you qualify for Scheduled Member Disability benefits, while permanent injuries to a body part not included in the schedule can result in Unscheduled Disability benefits.

You may also qualify for Temporary Total Disability benefits if your injuries are not permanent, but disable you for more than three calendar days. In addition to disability, you may also qualify for medical benefits to cover lost wages and treatment. This information is for your education and should not be taken as legal advice.
